Meet Dr. Michael Carlson

One of the things I enjoy most about dentistry is that every day brings something new. I get to solve problems, work with my hands, and connect with interesting, wonderful people along the way. For me, it’s incredibly rewarding to take something that isn’t working the way it should and restore it, helping patients feel better, more confident, and comfortable with their smile.

I’ve always loved fixing and repairing things, especially on a very small scale, which is what drew me to dentistry in the first place. Today, I’m able to combine that passion with advanced technology and modern materials to restore teeth and improve oral health in a precise and lasting way. I take pride in doing high-quality work and always aim for results that stand the test of time.

At the end of the day, my goal is simple: to provide care I’d be proud to receive myself. I know that dental appointments aren’t always something people look forward to, so I make it a priority to help patients feel at ease, understand their treatment, and have as positive an experience as possible.

Education and Experience

I’ve been practicing dentistry in Escondido since 1999. I earned my undergraduate degree from Calvin University and my DDS from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. I also completed a 160-hour fellowship in dental implantology through the California Implant Institute, focusing on both surgical and restorative care.

Continuing education is an important part of my work. Dentistry is always evolving, and I believe staying current with the latest techniques, materials, and technology allows me to provide the best possible care for my patients.

I’m proud to be a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and a member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, San Diego County Dental Society, and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

At Home

Outside the office, my wife, Serena, and I enjoy taking advantage of everything Southern California has to offer. Whether it’s golfing, surfing, skiing, camping, or spending time at the beach, we love staying active and outdoors. We also enjoy visiting our three children, Shane, Cole, and Tara, whenever we can.
